Every FileMaker developer will have his or her own ways of designing a basic layout with detail and list view and links to present related information.

The basic layout of the Starter Solutions delivered by FileMaker is attractive but the underlying design is not sufficient to build real solutions. Features like navigation to related records and searching are lackingand the design makes it harder than necessary to add new layouts.

I will present one solution using a combination of script triggers, custom menu commands and a few basic scripts which will work across layouts. The concept makes use of the new status area and builds on the anchor-buoy model of taming the relationships graph. We can discuss pros and cons to this model and maybe come up with something even more powerful and easy to use.
